Zazie Olivia Beetz was born on January 1, 1991 in Berlin. Her father was a German Cabinet Maker who came to live to the United States following the fall of the Berlin Wall. She graduated from at the same school with Jennifer Aniston. Following her graduation from LaGuardia, Beetz went on to study French at Skidmore College. The auditions began shortly following graduation, and she was then offered the role in Atlanta. Beetz was the daughter of an African American father and an African American father and a German mother born in Berlin and Berlin was brought up as an ethnically diverse New Yorker. Zazie has performed in theaters in the community and on stage in New York throughout her early years. Zazie discovered that she enjoyed acting while in the school. PEOPLE reported that she said: "It seemed awful to me when I saw all those animals being crammed in the slaughterhouse, waiting for their death. I was shocked to use this method to get meat. Since then, she's maintained a vegetarian lifestyle.
